Show Parowan Town Council Police Chief appointed; Ordinances passed resigned. Bentley's appointment was approved. A letter was received from Jay Moore in which he stated that he wilf refuse to pay his assessment for curb and gutter work on First East until changes are made there. He says at the present time irrigation water cannot get to his property because of the new curb and gutter. The council agreed to inspect the site and make the necessary corrections. I . i i ' Dan Harris was in to repeat a request to have Parowan City take over maintenance of the sewer system at the Harris subdivision, which includes a sewer pump back station at the west end. The city agreed to take over maintenance if the facilities meet with the approval of the city electrician. Two requests have been receiverd by the planning and zoning committee and relayed to the council. One from Mr. Fred Lauretio. He has requested a zoning change on 2nd South between 3rd East and the canyon road. He wishes to build a lodge to accommodate the ski resort trade. The council agreed to set up a public hearing to receive any protests. The hearing will be January 5th in the Library Lounge, at 6:30 p.m. The other request for a zoning change was from Larry Leigh. He requested that he be allowed to install some sort of food service ser-vice in the Old Wilby Green home. The request was turned down. Mayor Kendall Gurr made a recommendation that Hyatt Bentley be appointed to replace Willis Robinson as city building inspector. Robinson recently reported on his department. Mr. Bill Stubbs and Joe Stubbs were present at the meeting and lodged a protest to a proposed change of a channel for an irrigation ditch. The ditch runs on 6th North above the Bessie Stubbs property. The city had proposed to run it through the middle of the block instead of from 6th to 7th north. The Stubbs' contended that they felt the new location would cause the ditch to wash and require a great deal of maintenance unless it was rip rapped with rocks or some other substance. The council agreed to have an on-site inspection, and for the present time the ditch will be left in the present location. Mr. Lynn Kenyon, owner of the Hungary Horse Saloon was at the meeting. He repeated his request for a permit for a "set up" license. This was voted on and approved by a 3 to 2 vote. Bud Rhodes engineer with Bulloch Brothers of Cedar City and Parowan City's engineers was present at the meeting to present information regarding a property line dispute on the Iona Orton and Lloyd Mortenson properties. In surveying ' they found Mr. Mortenson's property line was over on Mrs. Orton's property. The owners then requested that the city narrow ' the street there "on first west to have lines remain the same. The street is now 99 feet and they requested that it be narrowed to 66 feet. This would take some ' from both sides and give it to the ! property owners there. The city ' is not opposed to this because in ' most cases a 66 ft. street is sufficient. The street is not a ' through street. The council agreed to narrow the street. FRANK SLACK PAROWAN - It was announced at the Parowan City Council meeting that Pa rowan's Police Chief Eugene Wikle has handed in his resignation, after serving only a very short time. The council has hired Frank Slack as a new patrolman. Slack is a native of Cedar City recently retired from military service. He is now employed in Cedar but will assume full time duty as a Parowan police officer on December 17. Jim Broadwell will also be back on duty then returning from his training at the police academy. Some discussion has been held on consolidation of the city police department with the county law enforcement offices, but this plan has now been rejected by the city council. Two ordinances were passed by the council. They adopted the uniform building code 76 addition ad-dition and the uniform Fire and life safety code.
