Show Eagle Shooting results in Fine An Arcadia, Utah, man has been fined $750 and will spend all of his weekends in jail for the next two months for shooting a bald eagle. As the result of a joint investigation by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Utah Department of Natural Resources, Glen Ross, 24, pleaded guilty to violation of the Bald Eagle Protection Act. Ross shot the eagle with a 22 caliber rifle on Feb. 13 while rabbit hunting with three companions. com-panions. Upon confrontation with evidence by wildlife agents, Ross said he had thought the eagle was a hawk, a bird also protected by law. A nearby resident who heard the shot reported the incident to State officials. The eagle was found the following day by grandchildren grand-children of the citizen who made the report. From a description of the vehicle used by the hunting party, agents were able to gather information leading to Ross' apprehension. He was sentenced in Federal District Court at Salt Lake City on May 11 to spend from 9 a.m. Sat. through 6 a.m. Monday in jail for two months, to pay $750 to the Raptor Fund of Hogle Zoo, Salt Lake City, and two years probation plus loss of hunting privileges for two years. |
