Booklet to aid youth with projects A booklet designed to assist youth and youth organizations to develop and plan community service projects has been published through the cooperative efforts of the Cedar City Youth Council and the Iron County PTA Council. Entitled "Youth and Community Service," the booklet developed out of the identification of requests to city offices and other entities in the community asking for Various community projects. The Youth Council identified iden-tified that it was difficult for youth to initiate projects because they were unfamiliar un-familiar with the process of contacting various government govern-ment agencies; how to get on the agenda of public meetings, etc. Conceived by the Youth Council the project developed to include the Iron PTA Council as a financial source through the efforts of Katherine Ipson, who serves on both units. The booklet, which is available through the Iron County Extension Service, was written by Alene Chamberlain, edited by Patricia Lamoureux and typed by Suzanne Morris. Funds for the project were raised through the PTA through the chairmanship of Susan Bonzo. One of the major financing projects was a bake sale held last fall. Various steps to be taken in the development community com-munity projects are outlined in the booklet. Identifying what to do and how to go about doing it with an action plan are all included. "It is hoped such organizations as 4-H Clubs, LDS Mutual Organizations, Eagle Scout projects, etc., can be assisted by utilizing the information complied in this booklet," Mrs. Ipson said. "It is hoped that the preparation of the booklet will encourage youth and adults to work cooperatively together and take an active part in community planning by providing services that can enrich lives, encourage good citizenship and contribute con-tribute to the cultural, economic and physical attractiveness at-tractiveness of the community com-munity in which we live," Mrs. Chamberlain stated in the introduction. |
