Show Thirza Little is state finalist State Capitol Building. The contest was open to all Utah residents or students attending at-tending Utah schools. The quilts had to be of original design and hand quilted double bed size or larger. "Our Bicentennial events provide an excellent opportunity to feature the home arts of the past which includes quilt, making," noted Marva Esplin, USU Co-operative Extension Service Agent, Cedar City, Thirza Little, Cedar City, is among the thirty three original quilt designers that have been chosen as finalists in the Bicentennial Heirloom Quilt Contest sponsored by Utah State University. The quilts will be on display at the university in conjunction with the annual Festival of the American West, slated for July 30-August 7, in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building, room 213. The three top winners of the contest will be announced July 30, the first day of the Festival. $500 will be awarded the person winning first place, $300 to second place, and $200 for the third place winner! The 33 finalists were selected from 147 entries. Among the entries, the following were from southern Utah: Thirza Little, Cedar City; Roana Finley, Kanab; 'Clio Sullivan, St. George; Mrs. Cora Rowley, St. George; and the Milford second ward, Milford. Seven areas were designated in the state and each area submitted sub-mitted their five best quilts. Following the exhibit at USU, the quilts will be displayed in the |
