Show SUSC 50-year club elects Preston (Pete) Wood was elected president of the BNS-BAC-CSU-SUSC 50-year Club at the annual meeting of the organization Friday, Nov. 14. The group met in conjunction with the 1909 Southern Utah State College homecoming celebration. Named as first vice president presi-dent was Rhoda ' W. Jones. Second Vice president is Mary H. urie. Permanent secretary ; is iNaoim wait, wmi inez Cooper as histonan. Ail oi tne oxiicers are from Cedar City. I Mr. Wood was a 1919 grad-' grad-' uat.e of Branch Agricultural Coliege. His class was the last to graduate before the school , became a two-year college. ' He was a member of the chamionship BAC Basketball I Team of 1917-18 ana played I with the team all four years while in high school. He was also a member of the track team. He worked in construction construc-tion for many years and assisted as-sisted in the building of the El Escaiante Hotel. He was a member of the Cedar City Po- lice Force for 16 years and was manager of the Cedar City liquor outlet for six years before assuming responsibilities responsibili-ties as custodian of the United Unit-ed States Stsel Building in Cedar City. A total of 45 50-year Club ' members attended the dinner meeting, conducted by William Willi-am Jones, Cedar City, outgoing outgo-ing president. Other officers who have served during tne past year are C. L. Root, St. George, and Evelyn P. Wed-ster, Wed-ster, Cedar City. The Class of 1919 was officially of-ficially welcomed into the organization or-ganization at the meeting and at a friendship hour prior to the dinner. Kumen Gardner, Cedar City, chairman of tha SUSC Institutional Council gave a resume on activitie? of the new members. The group was greeted by Dr. Royden C. Braithwaite, SUSC president. The dinner , program was presented by Fred C. Adams, SUSC drama ' director, who spoke about the! Utah Shakespearean Festival and its future in Cedar City.
