Show Cedar LDS Stake sponsors Pioneer Day Celebration Tile Pioneers of Utah will not he forgotten in Cedar City this year when the annual Pioneer Day celebration is held Thursday, July 21th in keeping with the official birthday of the state. Under the direction of the Cedar Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day , Saints with the Cedar Stake Sunday School Board in charge the celebration will be commemorated com-memorated with a host of activities ac-tivities highlighted by the Pi-oneer Pi-oneer Day Parade Thursday morning. The parade promises to be one of the biggest and best ever staged in Cedar City as efforts go forward throughout the community. Under the direction di-rection of the Cedar stake Primary Pri-mary with Mrs. Walter Han-sink, Han-sink, President, in charge, the i parade is being organized. ; The Parade is to begin , at 9:30 a.m. with the Safeway parking lot to be used for the assembling area. All participants partici-pants must be at the parking area no later than 8:30 a.m. for the assembling. Any individual or group interested in entering a float is encouraged to do so and information may be secured se-cured by calling Mrs. Hansink. Prizes will bs awarded as follows: fol-lows: First .$25.00; Second $15.00; Third $5.00. I It appears at this time that I Main Street oiling will be sufficiently suf-ficiently completed that the parade route wll start at the Safeway parking lot on 400 South and lead down main street to the city park, then east where it will disband on 100 East street. The theme of the parade is "The Power of Unity," and I ISM" - vfjv.:.1'.'.; i i Miss Kent Wilson, Pittsburgh, Pr., and James Pickering, Pick-ering, McKnightstown, Pa., portray the roles of Helena Hele-na and Demetrius in the opening night performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the. Utah Shakespearean Festival tonight . (Thursday). Tonight's To-night's performance will open the 21 performance! eighth annual festival on Southern Utah State College Col-lege campus. . . I through beautiful floats it will portray the strength of unity in meeting sacrifices and hardship and successes of the pioneers who blazed the trails to move west. ' The local Sons and Daughters Daugh-ters of the Utah Pioneers with Mrs. Alva Matheson in charge, will present a special Pioneer Program in the First Ward Chapel immediately following the parade. An excellent program pro-gram has been prepared and : the public is invited to attend and pay tribute to the pioneers pio-neers of the local area. Kent Hulet will be the featured speaker and will talk on the topic "The Coming of the Railroad Rail-road to Cedar City." Following the parade, activities activi-ties will commence on the city park, at which time concession conces-sion booths will be available. Fish ponds, pony rides, dunking dunk-ing machine, dart games, BB rifle shoot, baseball throw, duck pond, ring tosses, popcorn, pop-corn, cotton candy, hamburger, soft drinks, ice cream and other light refreshments will be available. A huge bake sale will also take place at the city park under the direction of the Cedar Stake Sunday school. Kids races will follow at the park with prizes for all those who participate. All proceeds gained during the days activities will go directly di-rectly to the Cedar Stake bidding fund to help complete the new "Cedar Stake House." |
