Show ! Book on Zion Park ! Written By j Park Naturalist j James W. Schaack, Execu- ! tive Secretary of The Zion Na- tural History Association at Zion National Park, announces publication oi' a new book, "This is Zion", written and illustrated il-lustrated by Park Naturalist Allen Hagood. "This is Zion" satisfies a long existing need for an inexpensive in-expensive pictorial book which shows how the beauty of Zion is dependent on natural forces that are shaping the Park landscapes. The text of the book deals with the geologic al story of Zion, presented in a manner as much aesthetic as scientific. It is thoroughly readable to the layman or the professional geologist. The 72 pages are profusely illustrated illustrat-ed with both black and white and color photographs, These photos include views of the well-known scenic wonders of Zion Canyon and the recently opened Taylor Creek area, as well as many views of the back country not seen by the casual visitor to Zion. The author - photographer hiked many miles with a large-format camera to capture both I the large-scale scenic moods ' and closer intriguing details of Zion landscapes. Since the book has been on sale at the Zion Visitor Con- I ter, public reaction has been it most rewarding. "This is Zion" is not designed solely as a souvenir of the Park, but is an ntroduction to personal ap- preciation of nature's beauty as seen in the color and form of rock.
