CHURCH SUBSCRIBES $250,800 FOjUIBERIY BONDS One of the largest attended conferences confer-ences of the Church cf Jesus Christ of 'Latter Day Saints, was held in Salt Lake City during the closing three days of last week. . President Joseph P.-Smith made the opening remarks of the conference, welcoming the vast audience, which is estimated to Jiave numbered over 10,-000, 10,-000, to the conference. After giving some interesting statistics of the work of the church and the disposition of the tithes of the church during the past year, he pledged the loyalty of the church to the government, and urged the saints to lend every assistance assist-ance possible to the great cause. At the morning session, held Saturday, Satur-day, R. R. Lyman was appointed to the apostleship, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of iHyrum 'M. Smith. Mr. iLyman is the son of P. M. Lyman, who was the president of trie quorum of 12 at the time of his death last year. Jle was a graduate of the B. Y. U. and was proiessor of mathematics in the local school for a number or years. Joseph P. Smith Jr.. was made one of the church school board, filling the place on the board formerly held by the late Francis M. Lyman. Just at the close of the morning session Saturday by a unanimous vote of the 10,000 saints assembled, $250,-000 $250,-000 of the tithing funds of the church was appropriated to purchase Liberty Bonds. |
