Show 1 POLITICS 1 A Political Science League was organized last Tuesday in inthe inthe j the University The object of this orga organization is the instruction C of its members in the fundamental principles of national politics s and in current political problems This movement should receive the enthusiastic support of every student of the University of of the women as well as of the men The elective franchise should be sacredly regarded by every American citizen and those persons who are privileged to enjoy a higher education should especially realize a responsibility in exercising ex it intelligently Senator Robert La Follette of Wisconsin in in- his recent speech in this city impressed his hearers above all else with the thought that the principles of American liberty and equality and free ree government are in peril The danger he maintained arises chiefly from the indifference of a large proportion of the people to the duties of citizenship and their ignorance regarding the vital is issues ues which confront the nation On the corre correct t settlement of f g. g these issues rests not only our prosperity but even freedom it self Certainly if educated men and women do not become in informed informed informed in- in formed upon pon these national policies the char character of our representative representative V government will deg degenerate And yet it must be conceded conceded conceded con con- ceded that few indeed of thc those se who are graduated by our University University c sity or by other great institutions of learning of the land are re prepared prepared pre pre- c.- c. pared to express an intelligent opinion on questions of public policy It is expected that the league just organized will do much r to inform its members on political questions and thus prepare a them for citizenship To this end the best qualified men available available available avail avail- s able will be invited to address the society tf Let all the students of the institution be ali alive e to the importance L of this move and give to it their hearty support ks J I I I I II I SILL |
