Show WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TEACH THE PURPOSE OF UAPTISM By BOB REYNOLDS It is difficult to understand why so many people have been led to believe that baptism has nothing to do with the remission of sins and his salvation, since the Bible plainly teaches that baptism is one of the requirements of salvation. , Those baptized in apostolic times were immersed for the remission or forgiveness of sins. Peter told the Pen-tecsostians Pen-tecsostians to "Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins (Acts 2:39). Ananias told Saul of Tarsus to "Arise, and be baptized bap-tized and wash away this sins" (Acts 22:16). Since we cannot be saved without forgiveness it follows that baptism bap-tism is necessary for salvation. Thus we read, He that believeth and is baptized shall be served' (Mark 16:16). Peter said "Baptism doth also now save us" (1 Peter 3:21). But why does baptism save? It saves because it puts us into Christ where we may obtain forgiveness through His blood. Paul speaks of "the redemption that s in Christ Jesus" (Aom. 3:24). He also teaches, "For as many of you as. have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ" (Gal 3 27) We cannot be saved unless we are In Christ where we reach His redeeming blood, and we cannot get into Christ without being baptized, hence we must be baptized bap-tized in order to be saved.
