Show Cedar High Thinclads Win Points fltBYU Invitational One first and two second places were picked up by the Cedar High School Redmen In the gigantic Brigham Young University Uni-versity invitational track and field meet at Provo Friday and Saturday. Only two men on the Redmen team scored in the Class B division di-vision of the meet. Ken McKnlght took a first place in the Javelin throw with a creditable toss of 179'j feet. Ken placed third in the Class E state finals last year and on the basis of the BYU meet, which includes in-cludes all of the Class B Schools he will be working for a gold medal in this event this season. Gary Anderson was the only other point getter for the Red men. lie placed second in the two sprints the century and the 220 yard dashes. In both events Anderson placed plac-ed second behind Paul Allen of Pleasant Grove. However, he was pushing the big man from the northern school in both events. The possibility remains that he may yet beat the favored Allen when the state meet rolls around. Anderson showed marked improvement im-provement over the previous week's runnings. At the Dixie Invitational he also ran second behind Gene Stutzneggar of St. George. However, he placed ahead of the Dixie rival In both events at BYU. Stutzneggar was third in the 220 and fourth on the 100 at Provo. This week Coach Hal Norton will take his thinclads back to the BYU track In provo where the Redmen will participate In he Utah High School Activity Association's Relay Carnival This is a state-wide function with state trophies given to the winers in the various relay events. Date for that meet has been set for Saturday, May 3. |
