Show Pony League Honors For Half Won By Utah Construction Utah Construction won the second half championship of the Cedar City Pony League in a single game play-off with Utah Parks In a contest held Wednesday Wednes-day evening at the Lions Park. Construction and Parks tied for second half honors at the end of the regular league play necessitating neces-sitating the playoff and the miners min-ers pounded out a convincing 11 to 5 victory over Parks behind the pitching of Kent Smith to take the title. Southern Utah Power won the first half championship and the two half winners, Power and Construction, will meet next week in a two out of three game series to decide the league championship cham-pionship for the season. Utah Parks was the defending champs. Marion "Lefty". Bratton's Construction Con-struction crew leaped Into a decided de-cided advantage in the opening frame of the game pushing in five runs before Parks even got a chance at bat. They added three more tallies in the second to move into a big lead and held for the victory. Smith was the winning pitcher pitch-er and he allowed five hits to the Parks crew. Jimmy Nelson was on the mound for Parks for the first five innings and Bruce Stuck! came on in the sixth and seventh to finish out the game. Danny Lindsay got the only home run of the game, a solo, ia the fifth inning of play. Playoff series between Construction Con-struction and Power will get underway un-derway Monday evening at 7:00 p. m., according to Dan Lindsay, league president. |
