Show LIVING Hi ESCALANTE VALLEY By Elaine Haiker LIONS CLUB The benefit dance for the Enterprise En-terprise Emergency Hospital, being be-ing sponsored by the Escalante Valley Lions Cub, will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, at 9 p. m. The orchestra will be from Enterprise and there will be novelty spot dances arid mixers. Refreshments will be sell and there will be an auction of merchandise donated by Cedar City merchants. Ev iy-one iy-one Is invited and there will oe fun for all. Dr. XI. C Macfarlane, along with civic and church groups in Enterprise have been working together to-gether to equip an emergency hospital. Groups in the valley have also donated and some equipment has already been purchased. pur-chased. There Is an urgent need for this hospital as we are so isolated that most serious accidents can prove fatal. WEDDING SHOWER A wedding shower will be given giv-en honor of Evelyn Crum, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Crum, on Aug. 7 at the recreation hall. The shower, beginning at 8:15 will be given by Jean Love and Selma Godard. Evelyn plans to be married on Aug. 8 to Dewalne Stock, son of Ellis Stock, in Cedar City. VALLEY TOUR SUCCESS The tour, held Aug. 1, was a success this year. Over 100 people peo-ple attended. Wallace SJoblom, Iron County agent, and Craig Clark, agricultural commissioner of the coordinating council, wore in charge of the affair. The support of the Cedar City Chamber of Cummer was greatly appreciated. Also attending were jieoplc of Washington County and Parowan. After the tour the Women's Club under the direction of Mrs. Dorothy Gardner, president, and her committee members Barbara Laub, Selma Godard, Jean Love, Jenore Whitelaw, Marileen Austin, Aus-tin, Mary Moyle, Miriam McGar-ry, McGar-ry, Doris Federsen and Francis Piper, served a tasty chicken dinner din-ner and sold homemade candy. The proceeds, about $100, are to be used for equipping the kitchen kitch-en at the community building. While dinner was served Ama-sa Ama-sa Stones of Paragonah, chairman chair-man of the Iron County Fair, discussed dis-cussed plans for this year's fair. He commended the valley members mem-bers for their participation In last year's fair and for preparation in progress for the fair this year. They are Mary Jane Bracken, Brack-en, presWt nt; Judy Crum, vice president; Cheryl Hunt, secretary; Karen Nielsen, treasurer, and Jo-Ann Jo-Ann DolVeechio, scribe. The girls have been practicing practic-ing mnrchlng along with the scouts and , cub scouts for the county fair. Practice will be 7 on Thursday at the school house. All scouts, cub scouts and campflre girls who Intend to march In the parade must be there! CUB SCOUT3 On July 28, the cub scouts took a trip to Pine Valley with Mrs. Ruby Anderson and Mrs. Lou Bracken. The boys, Glenn Anderson, Ander-son, Errol Bracken, Tommy Scott, Eddie Gardner, Danny and Kelly Wood, first went to the park and cooked their lunch. They then hiked to the forks of the road, saw the reservoir, toured the historical his-torical church house and observed observ-ed the old methods of construction, construc-tion, visited other old residences, and took pictures of the first house built in Pine Valley. Mary Jane Bracken and Marguerite Anderson An-derson also went along. There was no . pack meeting in July and there will be none in August other than the marching practices for the Iron County Fair parade. SMC & SPAN 4-R CLUB The Splc and Span 411 Club members went to Veyo on July 29 for a swimming pariy. All the members were present along with Mr. and Mrs. Joe DelVecchlo, Edith Hunt and Phyllis Wood. For refreshments there were hamburgers, French fries and soda so-da pop. A group 4-II meeting Including all clubs in the valley was held Aug. 3. P.T.A. The local Parent-Teachers Association As-sociation held a meeting July 27 and discussed bus routes and insurance in-surance for children on the school grounds. Ianthus Wright, superintendent of Iron County schools, promised to provide a separate bus for ele-mentary ele-mentary school children from Newcastle. Delia DelVecchlo will still make two trips from Beryl each morning: One for students going to Cedar City and another for those going to Enterprise and the Escalante Valley School.
