Show T-Birds Meet Ft. Lewis Saturday at 8 Under Lights The College of Southern Utah Thunderbirds and Fort Lewis College Col-lege of Durango, Colo., will both be out to settle a score on the gridiron Saturday night at the CSLJ Thunderbird Stadium. The two schools, both moving into their second year of competition compe-tition in the four-year college level, met twice during the 1963 season and each won on their home field. Each squad will be out to prove it is the best Saturday. Kickoff time is 8:00 p. m. Ft. Lewis College opened its 1964 season this past week with a 13 to 7 victory over Colorado State College at Greeley, Colo. The Durango squad was report-ed report-ed to be strong at the quarterback quarter-back spot and at tackles. Quar terback was extremely strong featuring rollouts, bootleg patterns pat-terns off the Wing-T offense, which Is very similar to that used by the Thunderbirds. He can run and he can pass, the scouting scout-ing reports indicate. The two guards were reported by CSC to be the best in the Colorado league this year. Coach Bruce Osborne's T-Birds will be at full strength for the contest after suffering some minor mi-nor injuries against Redlands College at Redlands, Calif. The T-Birds will be working on an offensive punch for the upcoming up-coming game with a fine running run-ning and potentially explosive backfield composed of Dennis Wright, Son Sudbury and Bill i Carter. I Wright demonstrated his explosive ex-plosive ability against Redlands when he scampered 93 yards on ( a kickoff return only to have the run nullified by an offside pen- alty. i-ater :n the game he broke loose for a 54 yard Jaunt to set up a Thunderbird score. Sudbury Is probably one of the most competitive com-petitive member of the squad. He was equally as Impressive with a 40 yard jaunt for CSU's first touchdown midway in the fourth quarter. Along the line Ron Mayne, Tommy Rabb, Jay Rindllsbacker, Paul Brinton, Jim Jensen, Jerry Van Dolah and Rex Wright, will be expected to carry the brunt of the defensive efforts. The CSU - Ft. Lewis contest is the first of four successive home games for the T-Birds. |
