No. tm, Iran Bell No. 1 lode; from America's youngest, newest and busiest city for over 50,000 persons will teem with excitement excite-ment next July 12 to 18. At the moment it doesn't exist. A 1,500-acre tent city will house the fourth National Jamboree Jam-boree of the Boy Scouts of America Ameri-ca at historic Valley Forge In Pennsylvania. In It boys from all walks of life, of all races colors and creeds will live together, to-gether, exchanging skills, swap home town products, and learn about the customs and traditions of many sections of the nation. According to Louis McClellan, scout executive for this area, there still remain openings for Boy Scouts and Explorers from the Cedar Breaks District who would like to attend this encampment. en-campment. At the present time four scouts of Cedar City have registered to attend the Jamboree. All are members of Troop No. 334 sponsored spon-sored by the Cedar Second Ward. The four scouts include Allen Froyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Froyd; Leon Matheson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Matheson; Kent Farnsworth, son of Dr. and Mrs. Reed Farnsworth, and Jay McClellan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis McClellan. Scoutmaster for these boys is Charles Rasmussen, with assistant assist-ant scoutmasters Bert Carpenter and Blaine Barney. Any scouts who are Interested In attending this "once-in-a-life-time" event are encouraged to contact their scoutmasters for information. in-formation. McClellan indicated that the quota for this area has not yet been filled, but pointed out that applications must be processed In the near future so that proper planning can be made. "The purpose of the Jamboree," says Dr. Arthur A. Schuck. chief scout executive of the Boy Scouts of America, "is to strengthen the program of the individual unit and to provide an opportunity oppor-tunity for boys to be associated with scouts from all parts of their own country. This living together in a spirit of brother- hood and friendship is one of the continuing objectives of our movement and the basis upon which we have undertaken this gigantic task." Valley Forge Is owned and maintained by the Commonwealth Common-wealth of Pennsylvania which invited the scouts to camp there. After the jamboree the scouts will have the grounds restored to their original condition. |
