Show Parowan City Water Supply Project Receives Attention of Councilmen The progress of Improvements' to Parowan City's water system and the means of financing the said improvements, took up much of the time in the meeting j of the city council on Monday evening. Mayor Scott Mitchell and waterworks wa-terworks supervisor Mario Top-ham Top-ham reported that the improve-mkent improve-mkent program at the Six Mile spring was getting well along. They stated that the pipe and. other necessary supplies had arrived ar-rived to be used in catching thei water developed and for placing it in the canyon flow line; that the pipe had been laid and was now ready for final connecting and covering. The 40 feet of perforated 16" pipe has been placed in the trench where the water comes up and will be covered with about 18 inches of washed gravel and then clay to fill the trench. Approximately Ap-proximately 14 second feet of water has been developed by the project, it is estimated, which placed In the city system will insure Parowan City an adequate supply for a long time to come. It was also reported that the I project would cost approximately 1 $4,000 pending the receipt of th bills for pipe and fittings used I in the installation. Ways of 4-; nancing this on a temporary ba-i sis was discussed with the ul-( timate decision being made to borrow the money needed on a waterworks revenue note with the indebtedness to be paid off during the coming year from revenues from the waterworks system which will be adequute to do this In that time besides pay for maintenance of the system sys-tem and payments on bonds outstanding out-standing against the system. Other matters of business disposed dis-posed of by the council during the meeting were as follows: The request of O. W. Orton and Frank Mortensen for additional compensation for reading the water and light meters was deferred de-ferred until such a time as they have to read the water meters next spring. They didn't read the water meters in November and they will not be read again until spring. Instructed the Street and Sidewalks Side-walks committee to cooperate with Supervisor Mario Topham in giving him help In clearing snow from streets and sidewalks if and when it comes. Heard report of Elmer Green, city marshal and Orville Isom, city attorney on recent trouble brought about by the sale of beer to minors from nelf,nboring towns by Vic's Place, local tavern. tav-ern. Vic Showalter. manager of the tavern was present at the meeting at the request of the city marshal, and the council concurred concur-red with Mr. Green and Mr. Isom In that If this thing occurs aealn the beer tavern's license will be revoked. A decision was also made bv the council at the meeting to allow truck parking on Main Street from 9 p. m. around to 9 a. m. This decision was made at the request of local cafe owners. |
