Show 11 J i THE DOCTORS DOCTOR'S riCE Orric WHAT a homelike and yet thoroughly like business-like atmosphere pervades every everything everything everything thing This was the first thought that occurred to me as I entered Dr tons ton's office The Doctor is one of the leading physicians and surgeons in the city Unfortunately ly I have had to tomake make numerous visits at the offices of gruff cold unsociable in fact in some r. r cases uncivil doctors consequently it was somewhat with a feeling of dread that I rang the bell at the house where Dr Dr- W VV has his office A pretty little girl in a white apron and cap opened the door and in a very sweet voice said to me Be Be seated the Doctor will see you soon I felt a little better When at the Doctors Doctor's request I went to his office I left all my fearful feelings in the hall I was not greeted by the usual stiff Good morning 0 followed followed fol fol- lowed by the equally usual questions What is your name Your age age How long have you been troubled and a number of other similar similar- Oh no Dr lead ead up gradually to my business It did not seem his aim to get me out o of the office as quickly as possible The room was elegantly furnished and everything was in perfect order Of course there were all the customary apparatus the skeleton the skulls charts a few shelves loaded with big well worn volumes volumes treatises treatises on medicine and surgery surgery and and a cabinet filled with bottles and boxes of various sizes and shapes The floor was not covered with linoleum the linoleum the common x covering of office floors floors but but with a abright abright bright pretty Turkish rug The windows windows win win- dows were draped with dainty white curtains Over the mantel hung two old swords and some other old weapons and relics reminding one of tales of other days On the light colored walls were some pretty etchings and bits of bric-a-brac bric bearing evidence of some womans woman's refined taste and skill There was a cheerful fire in the grate giving an air of comfort to every thing Easy chairs a couch and numerous other little things contributed to making the theoffice theoffice theoffice office of Dr a cosy nest where one might tell a friend ones one's troubles and receive all possible aid rather than thana a cold uninviting place of consulta consulta- tion Almira Murdoch Murdock I.
