Show Iranian Student Aids College Scenic Endeavor College of Southern Utah has a real booster in one of its Iranian students, Manouchehr (Mark) Naval. He thinks the CSU campus cam-pus is a beautiful and Inter- esting place, and he does not hesitate to say so. However, Mark is not content to Just sit back and admire the .scenery of the campus. He is making some very effective contributions con-tributions to its enhancement in the form of interesting pieces of wood and a variety of unusal rocks. In the course of his summer duties ax a soil tester with the Utah State Road Commission, .Mark has kept his eyes open for objects that might be an attractive attrac-tive addition to the campus. He usally gets the location of a particular par-ticular rock or piece of wood in mind and then goes back to collect col-lect it in his free time. Most of the items he has gathered . have come from the area near Parowan and locations Just off Interstate Highway 15 south of Cedar City. He has also made special trips into the mountains to look for prize objects. In explaining how he first be-.gan be-.gan this one-man project, Mark .said that in looking around the college he noticed the rocks and wood being used to achieve the natural appearence of the campus. cam-pus. He wass impressed "with the way everyone pitched in to htlp, even Director Braithwaite." He said, "I saw everyone carrying car-rying rocks and working and I have not seen this any other place. It made me anxious to do something to add to the Lenuty -of the college." Mark has not studied art but .has a natural appreciation for things that are beautiful. He said that he always keeps something of an artistic nature in his room that has come from his country or been given to him by his friends. Mark is from Tehran, Iran, where his father, Sadah Naval, is an officer in the Iranian Navy. The rest of his Immediate family fami-ly includes his mother and four brothers. He has been In the United States for three and one-half years. He first attended college in Riverside, Calif, but transfer-d transfer-d to CSU after hearing about it from some friends from Iran who attended the southern Utah college. He Is majoring In mechanical me-chanical engineering and plans to finsh his course in about two and one-half years. Mark said that when he has finished his education he wants to go back to Iran "to work and use what I have studied here." He has served as a worthy ambassador am-bassador of his country while at CSU and his attitnde and comments com-ments Indicate that he will reverse re-verse the role, when he returns to Iran. y ' |
