Show Tom Brown Assumes Chairmanship of County Republicans Tom Brown of Cedar City was named to the chairmanship of the Iron County Republican Party Par-ty in 'a meeting of the central committee held Friday evening. The vacancy was left open when R. L. Gardner, Cedar City lawyer, resigned the position when he became a candidate for the position of Iron County Attorney At-torney on the party's ticket Mr. Brown announced following follow-ing the meeting that the County Republican convention would be held Friday evening, Aug. 10 at S p. m. at the Courthouse in Par-owan, Par-owan, and extended an invitation invita-tion to all delegates to attend. Only one contest will be decided de-cided by the delegates at the convention, con-vention, he indicated. Three candidates have filed for the position of County Assessor and the number will be reduced at the convention to two men, who will appear on the Primary election ballot in September. The three candidates for the assessor's position to succeed Hillm'an Dalley, who did not file ., for re-election, were Claude Smith and Milton Hyatt of Cedar City and Dee White of Summit. Other primary contests will be conducted on the Republican ticket, the chairman indicated. They include trie four-year county coun-ty commission post for which El-wood El-wood Corry and DeMar (Bud) Bowman, also of Cedar City, have fiied. For the two-year county commission post, two candidates have filed. They are Ivan Mathe-son Mathe-son of Enoch and Jess Guymon of Parowan. Other candidates who will appear ap-pear on the county level, but who -are unopposed on the Republican ticket include Antone H. Lambert. Lam-bert. Cedar City Chief of Police, for the position of sheriff; Dixie Leavitt, insurance agent, candidate candi-date for State Representative, !and Mr. Gardner for county attorney. at-torney. Unopposed on the Republican ticket and also unopposed on the Democratic ticket are three incumbents, in-cumbents, including W. Clair Rowley, clerk; Clair Hulet, treasured, trea-sured, and Joan Wheatley, recorder. record-er. All three are residents of Parowan. |
