Show Snow Measurements Below Normal In Parowan Canyon Clayton Rasmu&sen reports to us that precipitation recorded at the Parowan weather station, of which he is caretaker, for the month of March, came to 1.02 in- , ches, most of which came in four storms which carried an average j of .25 of an inch of moisture. This is slightly below whati usually comes in the month of Maich in this area, but is better bet-ter than was recorded by most weather stations in the southern south-ern Utah area. The 1.02 Included the storm which came Thursday of last week, which brought .27 of an inch of water in a fast snow and sleet storm. Ralph Orton reports the measurements mea-surements of snow and water content measured at the Yankee and at Ed Ward Flat by him and Lee Carlson of the Soil Conservation Con-servation service last Friday. This report showed that both the snow and water measurements measure-ments at the Yankee were up from those taken at the end of February by Orton and Carlson. Snow depth was 21.4 Inches and water was 5.4 Inches the last of March, compared to the February Febru-ary measurement of 18.5 of snow and 4.75 of water. At the Ed Ward Flat the March snow depth was down from the February reading from 9.4 to 8.2 inches. But the water content in the 8.2 inches of snow was up to 2.37 compared to 2.1 on the February reading. The March 1962 snow measurement measure-ment at the Yankee was 44.9 inches, in-ches, containing 13.4 inches of water and the March 1962 reading read-ing at the Ed Ward Flat was 30.2 inches of snow and 11.7 inches of water. Thus this year's moisture mois-ture readings at these places are only a fraction of what they were last year. April started out on a windy note which was followed Tuesday Tues-day morning by a snow storm which brough .14 of an Inch of moisture, according to Mr. Ras-mussen. |
