Show Hurricane Tigers Score Once to Tip Redmen 6-0 and Take Lead in Dixie Division Race One quick thrust at the beginning begin-ning of the second half gave the Hurricane high school football foot-ball team a touchdown, enough for a victory over the Cedar high school Redmen in a game played on the B A C field Tuesday night. This was the big game of the season and the victory put the Hurricane team In first place in the district race with very little chance of being overtaken. The visiting team struck suddenly sud-denly as the third period opened and marched 55 yards in very few plays, with Benny Madsen crossing the goal line for the only score of the game. The kick for point after touchdown was wide, but it didn"t matter, because the Redmen muffed every chance they had to score. The Cedar team had a total of 13 first downs, compared to six for the visitors, and although they gained much yardage in the middle of the field, the Redmen couldn't keep a march going once they got into scoring position. posi-tion. Fumbles stopped the first two drives, and late in the game the Cedar line failed to hold at critical times allowing the Hurricane Hur-ricane defenders to break through to smear the passer or ball carrier car-rier for big losses. Hurricane made two first downs to one for Cedar In the first quarter. In the second period per-iod Cedar rang up four first downs, but the gains were nullified nul-lified by fumbling. After Hurricane had scored in the third period Cedar gained almost al-most at will until the Hurricane 20 or 25 yard line was reached. The victory was the second of the week for Coach Don Homer's Hurricane Tigers, the squad defeating de-feating Parowan by a 46 to 7 score last Friday. In other league games of the week, Parowan took the measure mea-sure of Kanab Tuesday, 19 to 6, after the Kanab team had battled bat-tled Dixie to 1212 tie last Friday. Dixie played Beaver In a practice prac-tice game Tuesday, the game ending in a 1313 tie. There are no games scheduled this week end because of the Utah Educational Association convention in Salt Lake City. Next Thursday Cedar will play at Kanab, and Parowan will go to St. George for a game with Dixie high. The following week Parowan will play at Cedar and Dixie will go to Hurricane for the final games. A victory for Hurricane Hurri-cane will give the Tigers the district dis-trict title and the right to meet the Millard district champions for Region Six honors. - - MaaaaaM |
