Show Mrs. Edna S. Hatch Chosen "Mother 01 the Year" by Local Literary Club Selected as its candidate for' the "Utah Mother of the Year" I by the Parowan Literary Club is Mrs. E()na Stohl Hatch, 60, of Parowan. The wife of Amos C. Hatch of the Parowan High School faculty, Mrs. Hatch is well known as an outstanding church and civic worker, as a devoted wife and mother and a friendly neighbor. These and many other attributes makes her the choice of the club and she will be its representative for Utah's Mother of the year, 1954, according to Mrs. Fae N. Benson, club president. Born in Brigham City, she was a daughter of Oleen Nelson and Sarah Peters Stohl. Her grandparents grand-parents were eariy converts to the L D S faith and migrated to America from Sweden and Wales. Educated in Utah Schools She received her education in the Brigham City schools, the U of U and the U S A C. She taught school in her home city for five years and fulfilled a mission to the Eastern States during 1915 and 1916. Always active in the affairs of her church, Mrs. Hatch began serving as a teacher in the Primary Pri-mary Association when 14 years of age. Since then she has served in the Sunday School and Relief Society. In the Relief Society she has served as a ward and as i stake president, the lattei for se-1 ven years. She Was chairman of the Stake Relief Society presidents presi-dents of the Virgin River Welfare Wel-fare Region for six years. She has also been an active member of the America.-! Legion Auxiliary, serving as department chairman and president of the local unit. She serves as community chairman of the Rod Cross home nursing service and is co-chairman of the Cancer Fund drive in Parowan. She is active in the Paulina Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioners, has served on Parowan City Library Board, the County Welfare Board, and in the local Parent-Teachers Association. Asso-ciation. Family Comes Fust But first and foremost in her life is her husband and family of nine children. She was married mar-ried to Mr. Hatch at Ft. Lewis, Wash. June 11, lt-18. Later the marriage w;,? solemnized in the Logan L J S temple. The family includes lour sons and five daughters, langing from 15 to 35 ears of age. They are: Chester H., employee of the Cedar City Laundry and Cleaners; David S. assistant personnel manager at Z. C. M. I. in Salt Lake City; Oleen N., principal of Kanosh Elementary schools and Joseph Clark, student at Parowan high; Mrs. Howard (Margaret) Knight, Mrs. Leon (Louise) Robinson and Mrs. Gordon (Hazel Ann) Whitney, Whit-ney, Parowan; Mary Elizabeth, with Mt. States Tel. & Tel. Co. in Salt Late City, and Helen Ruth, Parowan high student. There are also 19 grandchildren. The Hatch family came to Parowan Par-owan in 1927. The winner in the state contest con-test will represent Utah in the National "Mother of the Year" contest in New York City. |
