Show LETTERS I TO THE EDITOR (Editor's Note: The following is a letter written in Korea to the Cedar City Elks lodge upon re-ceit re-ceit of a state flag from the lodge, and of the initial flag-raising flag-raising ceremony.) 16 August 1951 Cedar City Lodge No. 1556 B. P. O. E. Cedar City, Utah. Dear Exalted Ruler and Brothers: It is with great sincerity that I write this acknowledgement for the 213th Armored Field Artillery Battalion for your fine thought-fulness thought-fulness and gesture in sending us the State Flag of Utah. It might be of interest to you to know where it was first raised. We are located high In the mountains of East Central Korea on a very high mountain pass. The men, immediaately upon receiving re-ceiving the flag, cut a long pine tree down and secured a fine flag pole from it. The entire Battery ; was present at the flag raising ceremony. I'm sure, without any reservation, that this flag is higher in the air in Korea than any other flag, due to our present pre-sent location. The 213th deems it a privilege to have such a fine organization as the Cedar City Elks Lodge behind be-hind it. We thank you whole-heartedly for the fine attention and cooperation cooper-ation you have given us. The wonderful farewell banquet that the Elks Lodge 1556 gave us before be-fore leaving Cedar City on active duty was deeply appreciated. I can assure you that the men and officers think very highly of the Elks Lodge and I again thank you for this fine flag of the State of Utah. Fraternally yours JAMES HOYLE, JR. Capt., Arty. Adjutant. |
