Show Enterprise Child Drowns in Ditch Near Home Gaylen Merrill Laub, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman D. Laub, of Enterprise, was drowned Monday when he fell or stepped into an irrigation canal at Enterprise. En-terprise. The boy, missed by his mother around 9 a. m. was not found until two hours later when Mrs. Theda Bowler walked Into the five-foot deep canal to find tne body lodged under three feet of water. Hundreds of neighbors and friends participated in the search for the boy after he was reported missing by his mother. By the time the body was found, searchers were lining the canal banks in both directions. Mrs. Bowler was unable to see the child from the bank. Mrs. Laub said she had been working in the family garden and had left the child playing with neighbor children in the front yard. Mr. Laub was at work in the field and did not reach the scene until after the child was pronounced dead. Gaylen was an only son of the young co" ole. Searchers made a two hour attempt at-tempt to revive the boy but were not successful. Gaylen was born In Cedar City, Sept. 2, 1950, a son of Norman D. and Barbara Ruth Page Laub. He Is survived by his parents; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Page of Enterprise and Mr. and Mrs. Milton Laub, Littlefleld, i Arizona. - - |
