Show Three Teams Battle For Lead in City Softball League TEAM STANDINGS Team Won Lost Pet. Desert Mound 5 2 .714 Columbia 5 2, .714 Utah Parks 5 3 .625 Record 4,4 .500 Utah Const 2 5 .350 Bradshaw 1 6 .143 Desert Mound relinquished domination of first place honors during the past week's play in the Cedar City softball league, by losing its only encounter against Utah Parks. Columbia Iron Mines are now sharing the spotlight with the mounders by winning their only game of the week against the Iron County Record. Utah Parks, now holding down third place in the league is still theatening the two leaders. It had three games this week and came out with two wins and one loss. Friday evening, June 20 the Iron County Record took the measure mea-sure of Bradshaw Chevrolet, 15 to 3, in the opening game. The nightcap saw Utah Parks, behind the able pitching of Verdell Ruesch, score the only shut-out of the league to date, downing Utah Construction, 15 to 0 in a one-sided afair. Monday evening Columbia Iron Mines came from behind af-ter af-ter allowing six runs in the first inning, to beat the Iron County Record in a hard-hitting, fast scoring game, 12 to 10. Utah Parks threw the league into a three-way tie for first plane in the night cap by downing the league leaders, Desert Mound, 12 to 6. A first inning let-down for the mounders allowed the Parks to score 8 runs and they maintained main-tained their lead through the seven innings of play. Wednesday, June 25, Utah Construction Con-struction beat Bradshaw Chevrolet Chevro-let in a high scoring game, 17-11. Bradshaw, playing heads-up ball for the first three Innings, lost control In the fourth and allowed 11 runs to score against then and were unable to catch the Construction team after that. The night cap saw Iron County Record Rec-ord down Utah Parks in one of the closest games of the league play. Iron County Record led 4 to 1 up to the sixth inning and then two errors and three hits allowed three Parks men to score, tieing the score. The deadlock was not broken until the last half of the seventh inning when Mel Reeves, chucker for the Rec-. ord, lined out a hit with two out and two men on bases to win the game 5 to 4.
