Show Former Russian Reporter to Speak in Cedar I f !? m r. : i. ir$)H I r?r .. Robert Magidoff, author of the current "In Anger and Pity" and for twelve years correspondent in the Soviet Union, will appear In Cedar City on Monday, November Novem-ber 28, as the guest speaker of the Fscalante Knife and Fork club. Mr. Magidoff received widespread wide-spread publicity In America when he was summarily expelled from Russia In April, 19-18. American newspapers and radio ra-dio reported how Magidoff was ousted on false charges of "espionage", "es-pionage", how no Investigation of the charges was ever officially official-ly made. It was all part ef a "relentless campaign", said Magidoff Mag-idoff at the time, "to make the Russian people feel that all for- cigners except those from the satellite countries are spies, de-.generates, de-.generates, speculators and dan-gerous dan-gerous and the Russian people should stay away from them." Robert Magidoff Is a native of Kiev. Russia. He came to the United States as a boy, became an American citizen and attend-ed attend-ed the New York City schools. He was graduated from the University Uni-versity of Wisconsin in 11)32 andl soon returned to Russia to do lostgraduate work. Since then he has spent the major part of his time in the Soviet Union, working work-ing first for the Associated Press and later joining the National Broadcasting company as its Moscow correspondent. During the war he eovereul the entire conflict from inside Pais-sla. Pais-sla. lie visited the Soviet -German fremt line;; I:,iirtce i times. He covered lend lease shipments from the United States to the So. viet on a convoy to the Persian Gulf. He accompanied Kric Johnston John-ston on a fabulous trip which the former head of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce made Ihrough European Russia, the Urals, Siberia and Central Asia. During his doen years In the Soviet Union, Magidoff traveled extensively throughout European Russia and the rest or the Soviet Empire. After the war he made trips to Poland, Hungary, Rumania, Ru-mania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, and Finland. Miigldoff Is married to Nila Magidoff, a well known Russian writer and herself an American citizen. He has contributed to fuch periodicals as the New York Sunday Times, Liberty, the New York Post and many others.
