| Show T THE HE debate at the rooms of the Young Mens Men's Christian Association last week was on the question of the influence influence influence in in- fluence of the modern stage We were rath rather r disappointed to find that th the strongest argument brought forth to prove that its influence was not good hinged upon the fact that some of the costumes worn are too meagre We cannot but think that the real immoral influence of any performance is not summed summed summed sum sum- med up in a dress or in a too much abbreviated skirt We wonder what the young women of f our University University University sity would say if they were told that their Physical Culture costumes were to tobe tobe tobe be condemned because the morals of young men would be injured should they chance to see them We have never heard it hinted that the exhibition given last winter by Miss Babcock's class was an immoral one notwithstanding ing the fact that the performers wore skirts which reached only to the knee The fact is everybody knows that the exhibition was eminently proper and that if any immorality existed it was inherent in the mind of the observer Haven't we had enough of this cant about immorality in costumes whether in the gymnasium or on the stage Is Isit Isit Isit it not evident that those whose morals are shocked by seeing a ladys lady's ankle must I look within and not without for forthe forthe forthe the cause What an exceedingly fragIle fragile fragile fra fra- gile thing masculine morality seems to be anyway Helen Campbell was pretty I nearly right when she said II Young men it is your morals not the dresses that are cut too low |
