Show Cedar City C. of C. Committee Chairmen Outline Activities Several committee chairmen gave reports at the membership meeting of the Chamber of Commerce Monday Mon-day evening which indicate that a number of worth while projects are progressing satisfactorily and that others will be undertaken in the near future. The membership meetings, meet-ings, held once each month, have been arranged for the purpose of discussing problems before the organization or-ganization and to hear reports from committees. The New Industries committee, headed by Wm. Snow, reported that an effort is being made to promote the growing of more turkeys in Iron county so that the turkey processing process-ing plant might be used to greater advantage. Indications are that at least 100,000 turkeys will be raised in the county this year. E. H. Jones, chairman of the livestock live-stock committee, reported that his group had been cooperating with the Chamber radio committee in the presentation of its weekly broadcasts broad-casts as a means of better ac quainting the people generally with the problems confronting the industry, in-dustry, and for the purpose of promoting pro-moting greater activity in the livestock live-stock field. C. B. Cooley, chairman of the airport committee, reported that blue prints of a master plan for the Cedar City municipal airport had been completed and filed with government agencies. Present indications in-dications are that Federal fundi will be spent on the local port for extensive development purposes. H. H. Lunt, reporting for the road committee, stated that progress had been made on the Cedar-Modena-Panaca road project, the connecting point between Utah and Nevada having been designated and a $75,000 project approved for the next fiscal year. Efforts are to be directed toward much needed improvements im-provements on highway 91, Mr. Lunt reported. The merchants committee, headed by Robert 8mlth, reported that an effort Is being made to work out better regulations for closing hours, etc. Other sugeatlons were that a study of the possibility of better lighting on Main street be made, that good-will tours to surrounding communities be made, that extensive exten-sive advertising be done in adjoining adjoin-ing states, and that an effort be w w x v aw MV V uv i i wi a vi V waitresses, and others who come in contact with the traveling public. |
