Show First Ward Scouts Hold Annual Fathers' And Sons' Banquet The annual Boy Scouts Fathers' and Sons' banquet of the Cedar City First Ward was held last Thursday evening In the recreation room of the L. D. S. First Ward church with approximately 160 fathers and sons present. Morgan Rollo, troop committee chairman, presided at the banquet with Donald Knight, president of the Young Men's Mutual Improvement Improve-ment Association, acting as master of ceremonies. A short musical program was flven during thi banquet, consisting consist-ing of community singing undrr the dli-ectlon of Oeorge Hess, a piano pi-ano solo by Leonard ArUtrom, a harmonica solo by Rex Nelson and a trumpet and clarinet duet by Keith Ence and Dick Hunter. Following the banquet Wallace Osborne, scout master, gave a brief talk on scouting, being followed by George Hesa who was the speaker for the evening. Mr. Hess dwelt at some length on scouting and the Influence exerted ex-erted by the scouting program on the youth of the land, making for better citizenship. He pointed out that scouting had a direct bearing on the curbing of Juvenile delinquency delin-quency and that the greater the number of scouts in a vicinity, the less Juvenile delinquency there was to be found. He admonished the fathers to see that they did not lose sight of the importance of devoting de-voting time and attention to their sons and daughters, remarking that those sons and daughters represented repre-sented the largest Investment a man could make. The evening's entertainment was voted to be one of the best of Its kind ever to be staged by the Scouts of the Ward. |
