Show COLD WEATHER CLOTHING. How to Dn-ss for Winter Health and Comport. (By Dr. R. R. Daniels.) Our clothing problem during the cold weather is to wear heavy clothing cloth-ing when we need it, while out of doors, and light clothing when we are indoors. If we 9pend any considerable consider-able part of the time indoors and wear at that time heavy clothing, the skin is certain to be overheated and rendered sensative, so that on going out of doors we will be certain to "feel the cold" far more keenly. Everyone Ev-eryone should follow this rule and should dress according to his particular particu-lar needs. Heavy Clothing While Outdoors. In avoiding overclothing the body while indoors, it is best to wear light or medium weight underwear. This permits the wearing of a moderate amount of clothing in the house, whereas, with heavy underwear the body is overheated while indoors. Those who spend most of their time indoors need clothing but little heavier heav-ier while inside during the winter; our houses and offices are about the same temperature the year around. On going out of doors we need sufficient suf-ficient clothing to keep comfortable; this is to be had by putting on heavy overcoats, sweaters and other outside clothing, which are taken off when golag inside. Clothe the Body Equally. The body should be clothed equally throughout. The rule is that the limbs and the neck ure underclothed; this is particularly the case with women, in whom comfort often takes second place to prevailing fashion. The blood is more exposed to the cold air in the limbs than in any other part of the body; in the limbs, and particularly particu-larly in the wrists and ankles, the larger blood vessels lie closer to the urface than in any other part of the body. These parts should be well protected during cold weather. Un-lerwear Un-lerwear for men as well as women should fit well up around the neck ind well down over the wrists and ankles. an-kles. The underwear should be tucked down several inches into the shoes. High shoes of good weight and heavy stockings and sox should be worn throughout the winter. |
