Show TREATING HORSE FOR THRUSH Hoof 8hould Be Trimmed Properly, Diseased Parts Removed and Strong Disinfectant Applied. (By M. H. REYNOLDS, Minnesota Experiment Ex-periment Station ) Thrush In horses' feet Is frequently caused by standing in filth. This changes tho texture of tho hoof and Infection follows. Continuous standing stand-ing on very dry floors may also cause this trouble, whllo in some cases it is apparently caused by a contraction of tho hoof. When tho horso is shod with high heel and too calks or tho wall of tho hoof Is allowed to grow very long and tho horso stands on hard floor so that thoro Is no pressure on tho frog of tho foot, the condition of the frog Is impaired and it becomes subject to infection and disease. Cases of thrush need a dry, clean stall. Trim tho hoof properly, remove tho dlseuBod parts and apply a strong disinfectant dis-infectant over tho solo pf tho foot. Any of tho coal tar disinfectants may bo used full strength. Puro carbolic acid may bo used, caro being tnken that It does not run down tho heel and burn the skin. After tho first strong dlslnfeotant, calomel should bo dusted over tho diseased dis-eased surface and some thick clay np piled to the entire Bole. |
