Show H Our First Anniversary . H With this iasiio of The Record tho writer com- H ' pletes his first year as manager of the paper and as a citizen of- Cedar City. Regardless of what- H ever tho future may hold in store in the way of H change ; or business, the past year has been one H that has exceeded our most enthusiastic expec- H tations in the success with which wo have been M favored H In view of the peculiar conditions which existed H at the time we assumed the management, wo fully H expected that the paper would suffer a con- H siderable loss in subscribers, if not in advertising H patronage, but the reverse has been true. Of H course, a number of the former subscribers, for per- H sonal reasons purely, had their names removed H from our subscription lists but for every one that m was cancelled, three new ones were added. After H the first t no months our subscription list showed a H gain over what it was at the time we assumed H charge, and today The Record has a larger sub- H scription list than at any time before during the v last six years. H This is a otinging rebuke to those who made H' the statement that "The Record will not last a M year," and shows that some individuals make a c mistake by leaving the people out of their con- M ;sideration in planning a matter in which the M public has an influence. The people of Cedar m City'have demonstrated that they are awake, with H a'few rare exceptions, and are determined to make m this city one of the best in the state among cities ,.-. of-.similnr population, and they realize that a B good newspaper is the best single means of accom- M- plishing the desired result. More than that, the H people of the county appreciate a paper that is L, broad enough and generous enough in its policy m ' yhich is tho right policy of a real newspaper to ' work for the interests of every section of the K county without regard to personal considerations, B and consequently the demand for The Record has . increased until at this time there are but few H homes in Iron county in which it is not a regular H)s weekly visitor. B , We truly appreciate thes consideration shown H the paper and wo have tried to make it deserve B the support it has received. A newspaper is the H mouthpiece of the community or locality which it H 3erves, ana it should represent the interests of that B community. In return the paper should pQ en- H couraged because of the character and class of B paper itself and not because it may be, owned by H " any certain individual or individuals. H The personality of the individual shoukf give H place to personality of the paper for after all H it is the paper and what it contains that will H have an influence either for good or otherwise, or H' that will make it of value to the reader and to the H community. H In keeping with the growth in tho number of H' readers, the advertising patronage has shown a H steady increase, for it has. become a slogan that H "if you want to sell it, advertise it in The Rec-1 Rec-1 H We shall continue to put forth every effort to H make Tho Record a better paper with each pas- H sing week, and if it represents with credit Cedar H City and this section of the state, wo shall ap H. preciate the continued patronage of our readers. |
