Show H , ; B m Matters as Viewed, at a Distance, m Ul In another columV in today's paper appears Hj ; a letter from H. Gordon Matheson, son of Bishop H .; A. G. Matheson of this city, who is laboring in p v 'v the Swiss and German mission field in behalf of H ij,j of the L. D. S. cliurch. Elder Matheson does not 1 t hesitate to say that he gives no little credit to M 'r The Record for the marked activity which has M l ' developed in this section within the last few H t' months. M i This letter is expressive of the same senti- M ments expressed by Elder Myron F. Higbee, ol K the Northern States mission, located at Peoria, 1 111., in a recent letter published in these columns, Hl. which was no doubt read with much interest by Bll all our readers, and is indicative of the impression W gained by those who are in a position to judge Wr of conditions in an unbiased and dispassionate B manner. These young- m'en look over the paper B and note the changes and improvements, see the H various articles on conditions affecting this section- fl of the state, and they are in a position where the , only information thoy get pertaining to home is H through the papers, except such as comes from L-- relatives and friends through the medium of let- B ters; and they read every page and every line 1' with more than passing interest. If the above is true of our own citizens who H i yffiNy are-home, how much more effectively must it mfX v apply to tne stranger, cjincriu uiiuu1 kjurus'4Pf- T the state, or beyond its borders. This paper has I H'r great faith in the future of Southern Utah, and H ' condfiently believes that Cedar City is destined H' .to become a commercial center of prominence. H k'; e rv exP'0 tne resources of the country en- KL .,, j thusiastically, but truthfully, even too corserva- JM . tively, for we sense fully the responsibility rest-H rest-H ' . ' tl ' ing upon a newspaper, and appreciate the ,dis-B ,dis-B , ' 'v, , appointment that would follow should any one be H ; induced to locate here through any intentional H J" exaggeration of facts. B"""""" tn connection with these sentiments, we H i ' urge a careful reading of the article which also Hcc . ., appears in another colunm, taken from the Logan BK "Journal, respecting the views of Dr. Evans as to K1'V. y the hopes of the officials of the Agricultural Col- Hjr4; lege in the development of Iron and surrounding HVlv counties. His views are in strict accord with Hr ' ' the position taken by this naper ever since the Hf7 change was first proposed, and in view of the Bj ' fact that the Agricultural College has been able Hp to accomplish great changes in those localities H? , f I which the officers have undertaken to develop, it K is safe to assume that when they speak of the K- possibilities here, they know whatfthey are talk- K, ing about and believe what they say, for they are Bi not given to making idle statements at any time Br l respecting matters concerning their- official H; duties. |
