Show AVERAGE 210 LBS. SUGAR PER TON Bseelteal Record of FHiciency Made by People's SuKar Sompany at Moroni Factory First Year. As an evidence f the high efficiency efficien-cy attained during their first season's run in their new factory at Moroni, Sanpete county, Utah, officials of the People's Sugar Company state thru an average of 210 pounds of sugar was extracted from each ton of beets. This splendid showing is acknowledged acknowledg-ed by experienced sugar manufacturers manufactur-ers to be exceptional for the 1!17 sea son, nnd is accounted for by two outstanding out-standing facts. First, the Moroni factory, which is the only western plnnt to be operated throughout by electricity, is fully equipped with the most modern automatic aut-omatic machinery. In designing the factory, months were spent in studying study-ing the advantages and disadvantair-, disadvantair-, es of many other plants throughout 1 the country and the result is conceded conced-ed to be the "last word" in sugar mill construction. The second big factor which accounts ac-counts for the initial success of this Company is that the men operating the factory were experts in their work, having had years .if experience i in sugar-making business. Great care was taken in selecting the heads of j departments and other important em-, em-, ployees and only men trained in other , sugar factories were given positions. In speaking of his company's success suc-cess and the recent agreement to pay the farmers $!) a ton for beets, N. G. ' Stringham, secretary, says, "It has j been highly gratifying to have com-j com-j pleted this first season's operations. ! The officers feel that much of the success suc-cess hns been due to the splendid cooperation co-operation of the farmers of Sanpete County. Already over 000 acres have , been signed up for 11)18 and it is cer-, cer-, tnin that this figure will be materially increased before the planting time. "Our company has readily agreed with the other companies of the state I to pay the new price, $!) a ton', for beets, with the additional arrange- , ments proposed at the Logan Round- ! Up. We believe this will result in , the largest acreage of sugar beets ev- er planted in Utah. As sugar is rec- j ognized as one of the most necessary . articles of food, we are particularly anxious to do our part by backing up i the Federal Food Administration in 1 its efforts to have more food pro- i duced." |
