Show SEED BED PREPARVTION Of CREAT IMPORTANCE Big Inrreane in Wheal Yield Can Be Secured by Proper Methods.. The preparation of a proper seed In il for spring wheat is of vital importance im-portance this year in our campaign for increaHed wheat production, says Mr. J. W. I'axman, dry farm specialist special-ist of the Kxtension Division of the Utah Agricultural CoDlft. The following fol-lowing is Mr. Paxman's message to the farmers: "If Utah farmers are to increase their wheat yield by one million bushels bush-els next year, which they must lo if they meet the request made of them by the food administration, they must not only increase acreage, but they must increase the yield per acre. Correct Cor-rect varities of seed, proper cultivation, cultiva-tion, and careful harvesting are all very important factors, but a factor of major importance and one often overlooked is the prearation of the seed bed. By a proper packing of the soil, using one of the special machines now constructed for this purpose, the yield can be increased as much as five bushels per ncre. Rolling the land after planting is not satisfactory. It does but hnlf the work. The ground can bo properly packed with correct machinery at from thirtv to thirty- ' five cents an acre. The results art j greater profits and more food fur the people." A |
