Show Any attempt to reduce tne price of; proqucis of the farmer hasmvariably beep followed by ,wi(fo spread, panic and depression.fEven under :the present fair prices, for farm vp,roa, ucts and live stock, which have prevailed fotlie last ,eight, or ten years, the farmer does more to earn dollar than any other man, with, the ipoeible exceptfon of the day laborer who re'eeivef 'a wage qf 1.25 to$2 a ay for nine to teri hours continuous work. :This fact was, cdriclustfelv shown by President' Wihchell 6f the Frisco railroad system, whose comments on thq subject were printed in The Record several month's since. Whether or not the present administration 'will, do anything to bring about a condition similar to ih'at of 1893 to 1895, remains to be seen. The "high cost of liVr ing" Was very materially reduced at that time. Hogs sold for 2 cents, cows from $12 to $18, oats 20 cents a bushel, corn 80 cents a bushel, butter 10 cents a pound, eggs 6 cents a dozen, and so oh down the list. The. qostof living was greatly reduced,, as to that fact there was no mistake, in fact it wds o jow that it was "free" to hundreds of poor fellows in the large cities, who weye served a sumptuous meal of preaa and beans, without price. It ha4 to be without price for it was the price they didnft have. Since that time the cost of ' farm products have been advancing, likewise the pay for labor, and, best of all, every man has had a job if he wanted one. But mark it Well, if any steps are taken to ruin he market for farm produce, pro-duce, the country will pay a penalty in rivers of tears. Armies of Coxyites and Weaverites wjll roam the country, the""unemployed will be driven, to desperation and to crime. Better not try to rob the farmer in order to enrich some one else; he get j his as honest, if not more' so, than any othc class of people, and he feeds not only hihlselr but' the rest of mankind. . ,., id? ,i- ..
