Show Si. B. A. C. OPENS ' " SEPTEMBER 19TH. " NrCataloguc Soon Ready For llftribution. Few Faculty &v '- Changes. & :' The opening date of the Branch Agricultural College this year will ' be September 19, according to Di- rector P. V. Cardon, and the school s calendar to be followed will be ap-prorimately ap-prorimately the same as that of k ;, last year, the only exception being iLf;$ a little shorter Christmas vacation. I . V The vacation will be long enough, p1'" -' however, to make it possible for F ' any student to spend the full holi- ' day season at home without missis'4'. miss-is'4'. . . ing any classes. Commencement f , will be one day earlier than last l. ' The list of administrative of- y x ficers and faculty members, as it ' appears in the new catalog, soon to I be issued, shows very few changes , from the list of last year. The most notable chance is in the dircctor- -I ,. , - ship of the school, Professor Car- '2 v ,' don having succeeded R. F. Horn- 1- cr, who resigned June 30, after J'f-- eight years of service at the school. $-,"' The appointment of Professor Car- pftf don involved also a change in the tt title of the administrative head of EK the institution. fi :' "This change," Director Cardon I'" explains, "was made as one of the t ',.' . conditions upon which I accepted ' the position. The Branch Agricul- 1 tural College is distinct from any other school in Utah and therefore - - should not have an organization i I identical with that of every district i ' school. The responsibilities of the L B. A. C. head arc not only greater than those of a high school princi- E; v- pal, but they arc vastly different. C -;. ' As I understand the duties of my ,; i-. office, I am expected virtually to ?V direct in this part of the state, tWjgWWji'flniiv- thru the Branch CoUcge, the af- lKtir';' fairs of the prefeht "institution, in- jfr sofar as our equipment and main- f, -' , j tcnance funds will permit." U& 1a In otner words, it appears that wlkU the B. A. C. is entering upon a new &$'''' era and, under the direction of ' ' Professor Cardon, is to become what the residents of Southern Utah want it to be a real, active branch of the State Agricultural College. Other changes in the facuty in- ., " elude a new supervisor of training to succeed Miss Peterson, who has I gone into the state superintendent's I office at Salt Lake; three new r ' critic teachers; a new head of the .i Art Department to succeed Mr. (f Braithwaitc, who has accepted a . position with the Ogden high I school; and a new secretary. Def- r inite appointments to these posi- ' , tions have not yet been made, ex-' cept in the case of the critic teach-, ers, who are : Miss Emma Sharp, I Miss Tillic Winsor and Mrs. Rilla , ' Keeler. Director Cardon expects s soon to announce the names of the L successful candidate for the other positions. K So far only one addition to the f4' faculty lias been made, that of dairyman. To this position Mr. ' D. J. Hoffman of Colorado, has P, been appointed. Mr. Hoffman has had years of experience in dairy manufacture, both in Switzerland and in the United States, and he is t said to be exceptionally well qual- ified to operate the college dairy, I which will nrobablv be readv for (business early in September. Reports from the field, accord- ing to Director Cardon, indicate L Vr that the attendance this year will f ' be greater than at any other time 1- in the history of the institution, '' despite the unfavorable financial jr situation, which doubtless will keep many students at home. |
