Show The Plural of Cider. About twelvo years ago a young physician was elected on the school board In Marlboro, Mass. In order to add dignity to his appearance ho had raised a beard that turned out anything any-thing but what ho expected. One day ho had jus, entered tho sixth grade after tho children had been wrestling with singular and plural forms of words. Th'cy had como to tho word cldor and were nonplussed. "Write a sentenco," said tho teacher, teach-er, using first tho Blngular form, then write one using tho plural." Tho children wore busily writing, all except ono boy, who was noted for his extreme dullness. At the entrance of tho doctor ho seemed ,to havo an idea, and, seizing his pencil and paper, wrote rapidly. Tho teacher, very much pleased, when tho boy had finished said: "We will hear yours, John." "For the singular," said John, "I like cider; for tho plurnl, that man's ciders aro fed," pointing to tho rising ris-ing young physician on the platform. |
