Ryan, who has been a valued val-ued teacher in the High school during the past year, and who has resigned her position permanently, left yesterday yester-day morning to join her sister on their ranch near San Diego. Miss Martha G. Waters, who has spent the past six months in New York, has returned to the city. Miss AVatters was the guest while in New York of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Auer-bach. Miss Sadie McChrystal was guest of j honor at a very delightful ensington Thursday afternoon, given by Miss Lena Preston. The rooms were beautifully beau-tifully decorated with roses and about fifteen guests were present. The Misses Sherman delightfully entertained en-tertained at cards Tuesday afternoon, complimentary to Miss Edna Shearman. Shear-man. Sixty-three was the game played, the tallies were heart-shaped and the score cards were attractive pen and ink sketches. Prizes were won by Miss Harkness, Edna Shearman and Mrs. Dana Smith. The Misses Cosgriff have returned to the city, after a visit to the east, and are at the Kenytm. Flag day was appropriately observed on Saturday at the home of Mrs. David Keith, where a large number of friends were delightfully entertained at an elaborate luncheon." The beautiful rooms were draped with large flags and decorated with quantites of red roses, a vase of which were placed on each of the small tables used. The place cards were attractive flag designs, de-signs, and the national colors were carried car-ried out in the refreshments. Mrs. Keith was assisted by Mrs. Albert C. Allen, Mrs. E. L. Carpenter and Mrs. J. X. Ferguson. Schettler's orchestra added to the enjoyment of the guests during the afternoon. Mrs. Mary M. Ryan left Wednesday morning for her farm near San Diego. Miss Maude Parker will spend the summer in Park City, the guest of Dr. and Mrs. Donoher. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Welsh of Park City are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Ivers. Peter Brennan returned to Butte on Wednesday. During his visit he met many friends whom he had not seen for years. Rhody Power went back to Park City on Tuesday. Old acquaintances are always al-ways glad to greet Rhody. John H. Harrington and wife have gone to Ireland on a pleasure trip. Mrs. Conroy of St. Joseph, Mo., is visiting her son, Mr. James Conroy. Mrs. C. H. Jenkinson and daughters will spend the summer in Salem, O., visiting Mrs. Jenkinson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. P. StClair. Miss Anna Wall of New York is visiting vis-iting Mr. and Mrs. James Ivers. Mr. Frank Murphy of New York is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. James Ivers. Jack St. Clair came down from Butte last Tuesday" with a large party going east for the summer. Miss Regina Mangold of Jervis, Ore., arrived in the city last Saturday. Miss Mangdd will spend the summer in Salt Lake for the benefit of her health. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wood moved into their elegant new home last Monday. Miss Nellie Healyof Ogden was the guest of honor at a pif ttily appointed luncheon given by Miss Julia Hays Wednesday of last week. Covers were laid for twelve guests, and the luncheon lunch-eon table was beautifully decorated with tea roses, a large cut glass bowl filled with them forming the centerpiece. center-piece. The ladies present to meet Miss Healy were Mrs. Boyd, Mrs. Patrick, Mrs. W. D. Riter, Mrs. Moffat, Mrs. Mulford and the Misses Kate and Edna Ed-na Dwyer. Mr. and Mrs. N. P. Dooley, Mr. W. J. Dooley and a party of friends spent a few days last week in Provo canyon. The All Hallows boys returned home on Tuesday. $ The annual banquet of the St. Mary's Academy Alumnae association was held on Thursday evening at St. Mary's academy. Miss Vera and Miss Ollie Oliver of Idaho, who have been attending St. Mary's academy, returned last Friday to their home. They are very charming, charm-ing, bright young ladies, and many friends will welcome their return home. Rev. Father O'Rourke of- Silverton, who was drowned two weeks ago. was very well and favorably known here in Salt Lake, being a professor of mathematics math-ematics at All Hallows college from 1886 to 1889. Mr. William Kiely of Broken Hill. Australia, is visiting for a few weeks with his brother. Rev. Father Kiely. Mr. Kiely is a prominent business man. who reports favorably of thing3 at the Antipodes. |
