Show Sacred Heart Academy. The commencement exercises of Sacred Sa-cred Heart academy always rank among the most interesting entertainments entertain-ments of the season, and those of the present year are no exception. The programme of junior's .day, June 17, was exceptionally bright and excellent. excel-lent. Several of the numbers were appropriate ap-propriate to the season especially the opening chorus, "Merry June." and the beautiful little operetta "June Roses." The operetta was the most pleasing feature of the occasion. The clear, sweet voices of the little ones, and their easy, graceful movements, ., won the spontaneous applause of the appreciative appreci-ative audience. The music, both vocal and instrumental, instru-mental, was, as usual, of a high order and admirably executed. The wonder is that little tots like . those who took, part in some of the musical numbers can be trained to such delicacy of touch and precision of time. In each piece the unison was perfect. Sacred Heart Cecilian club sustained its well-merited well-merited reputation by a charming rendition ren-dition of "The Harp That Once." A semi-humorous recitation, "Six Little Maids at School," occasioned a little merriment, and was well received. The sparkling semi-chorus, "Come Soon Again," displayed the flexibility of the voices of the private vocal pupils pu-pils and the careful training bestowed upon them. The final cnorus rendered by the entire en-tire school was full of dash and sprightliness, and their entrance ancL exit were replete with the poetry of music. Rev. P. M, Cushnahan distributed the certificates. At the close he congratulated congratu-lated and thanked the children on behalf be-half of all present. Then in n short but forcible discourse he outlined the grandeur of an education built on the divine element, and pointed out the duties du-ties of those who, armed with a Christian Chris-tian education, issue from the convent school to face the problems of modern life. A large display of paintings and fancy fan-cy work are on exhibition at the acd-emy. acd-emy. The exercises of graduating day on the 18lh were unusually interesting. The account will appear in our next isnue. The alumnae gave a banquet the same evening in honor of the class of 1902, on which occasion the seven graduates grad-uates of the day, also Mitia Rae Keck, academic graduate of 1901, and Miss Dagmar Johnson, graduate in music, were initiated members of the association. |
