Show ' BLESSES THE IRISH. Pope Says That Pius Fund Decision Simplifies Matters. Rome, Oct. 25. The pope granted a cordial half hour audience to Archbishop Arch-bishop Riordan of San Francisco today- and surprised the latter by his clear memory and intimate knowledge of California affairs, especially the Pius fund case, from both the historical histor-ical and legal standpoints. The archbishop arch-bishop said he could give the pontiff little . information which he did not already al-ready possess. The pope remarked that the principle, which The Hague tribunal tri-bunal had adopted in this case would simplify the: solution of similar questions ques-tions of "pius funds" existing in the Philippines. Immediately after the private audience audi-ence Archbishop Riordan . joined- 400 Irish pilgrims, headed by the bishop of eastern Cape Colony. The pilgrims were presented to the pope by Cardinal Moran. , . . The pontiff appeared in ; his sedan chair, surrounded by the papal court.
