Show Miss Rives' Queerly-named Dogs. (Trenton True American.) llallie Erminie Rives, the authoress, has two Ensrlisfi greyhounds. "Peezeltree" and "Piltfarlic." In connection with the names of these two handsome canines there is a pretty southern tale. These does are the finest of their kind and were sent to Miss Rives by a friend in England. They are of a soft gray with white fore feet and Dossess extraordinary intelligence. The does' names are thus explained by their owner: "Thev are named because of a story my father used to tell of a daughter of my old black mammv. The negress was once reciting from memory 'the psalm, 'Take a psalm and brine hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.' 'Pleasant 'Pleas-ant harD' was in some way twisted into Pilgarhc' and 'psaltery' the old woman called 'Peezletree.' " The does are almost the constant companions com-panions of Miss Hives, and if she remains away from them any length of time they display their knowledge of her absence by falline sick. Miss Rives is fondly attached at-tached to them and money could not part them from her. |
