Show I CATHEDRAL NOTES. Solemn pontifical requiem high mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's cathedral cathe-dral on Sunday at 11 o'clock. Rt. Rev. Bishop Scan lan will be the celebrant! Rev. Father Harding of New Orleans will deliver the memorial sermon on "His Late Holiness, Pope Leo XIII." The music ronJorod by the .choir will by nearly all Gregorian chant. Ail the members of the junior choir ere expected to attend the rehearsal on Saturday afternoon. The little ones rehearse at 3:13 and the young girls at 4 o'clock. f Wednesday being the feast of St. Mary Magdalen, the patron saint of St. Mary's cathedral, a large congregation attended mass. lit. Rev. Bishop Scan-Ian Scan-Ian celebrated mass at 7:30 and delivered deliv-ered a brief but impressive sermon on J the feast day. ' The children of the Junior choir were to tpend Saturday afternoon iu Liberty park, but the outing is postponed until next Saturday, Aug. 1. All the members mem-bers of the 9 o'clock choir are expected to be present on Saturday at the usual place at 3:15. Parents are requested to see that the children attend the rehearsal re-hearsal promptly;, as special music Will be rendered at the 9 o'clock mass on Sunday. The young girls of the choir will not rehearse Sunday morning. The rehearsal rehear-sal is called for Saturday at 4 o'clock. The ladies of the Altar society met on Friday afternoon to arrange for the draping of the church. All arrangements arrange-ments were made under the direction of Rev. Father Curran. the spiritual director, and Mrs. W. McDermott, the I president of the society. ' The members of the Knights of Columbus Co-lumbus held thieir usual monthly meeting meet-ing on Wednesday night. juuii, iiijj ui me junior cnoir will rehearse on Saturday at 4 o'clock. f On hearing of the death of His Holiness, Holi-ness, Pope Lrfo XIII, the stonemasons who are working on the new cathedral ceased work and draped the building at their own expense. Miss Owen, the leading soprano of the cathedral choir, came down Thursday Thurs-day from WiDard, where she was spending the summer with her parents. Miss Owen was called to the city to take part in the pontifical requiem mass on Sunday. While in Salt Lake she will be the guest of Miss Nora Gleason. Mrs. W. L. Rafferty .of the Keith-O'Brien Keith-O'Brien store, will be one of the alto singers heard at St. Mary's on Sunday. Mrs. Rafferty is a charming woman with a charming voice and it is hoped she will join the regular choir in September. Sep-tember. F. J. Scarpa of the cathedral choir is seriously ill. . J. P. Murphy, a leading baritone of St. Louis, will assist the choir on Sun day. jir. .viurpnys, line baritone has always given pleasnre at St. Mary's. Rev. Father Harding will deliver the memorial sermon at the 11 o'clock mass on Suruday. , Miss Frances. Little, Miss Clara Fa-fek, Fa-fek, Miss Florence Locke and Miss Mildred Mil-dred Cuddy were the soloists at St. Mary's last Sunday at the 11 o'clock mass. Little Josephine Dederich was the young soloist at the 9 o'clock mass last Sunday. Parents are requested to send their Children to the rehearsal at 3:15 and at' 4 o'clock on Saturday. |
