The flags on the city hall and other city buildings were E laced at half-mast by order of Mayor tow as soon as the death of the pope Was announced. Mayor "Low late today Issused the following fol-lowing letter: ,"The death of the pope will bring seir-row seir-row to many hundred thousands of the citizens of New York, and those wllom It does not directly affect will respond with fraternal sympathy for their fellow fel-low Citizens who feel his death a per-! per-! sonal loss.
