Show Ogden Sacred Heart Academy. Brilliant Debate. Innumerable have been the red-letter davs in the calendar of Sacred Heart academy during1 the past few months, but were we to seek a color-adjective by means of which to paint the events of Thursday, April 6, we might with all propriety call it a golden morning brilliant with lustrous thought, sparkling spark-ling repartee and forcible argumentation. argumenta-tion. At 9 o'clock the library presented a very animated picture. In response to an invitation from the Annunciato society, so-ciety, the members Of the St. Theresa's The-resa's and St. Catherine's circles had assembled to listen to a debate. From the faces of all present one might infer that a delightful morning was anticipated, antici-pated, but realization far exceeded anticipation an-ticipation on this occasion. The subject chosen was' Caesar vs. Brutus, considered mainly from-Shakespeare's from-Shakespeare's viewpoint: but historical accuracy also played a conspicuous part. Misses Maloney and O'Connell were loyal adherents of great Caesar, while Misses Donaghe. Frost and Mag'mnis championed the cause of Brutus. Miss Maloney, in a smooth, striking exordium, exor-dium, laid before the audience the claims of her hero: and after winning many over who before had. wavered, she desisted for a few minutes amid a storm of applause, while Miss Donaghy arose to refute some statements, accept others and present some of the claims of him who called himserr the friend of Caesar. Equallv clear were the retorts of Miss O'Connell. to which Miss Frost replied with aptness and decision. Miss Ma-ginnis Ma-ginnis argued as if she stood in the forum, and won untold admiration for her clearness, her energetic yet calm delivery; but most of all, for her herolike hero-like tenacity. Miss Maloney and Miss Maginnis. whose fathers are. respectively. Judges Malonev and Maginnis. undoubtedly proved 'themselves logical daughters of judicial sires. The auditors pronounced the debate not only a feast of reason and a flow of soul, but a compendium of logic, his-j his-j tory, ethics and argument. |
