Show The following most gratifying letter reached us a few days ago: "Holy Cross Convent, "Jersey Street, Harrison, N. J. "Editor of The Intermountain Catholic: "Dear -Sir For several years your interesting paper has come to me and has been read by many Sisters, all of whom unite with me in saying that it is one of our best Catholic papers. "We thank you very sincerely for your generosity gener-osity and for the same you have a share in our ' prayers. "May the Giver of All Good bless your work and crown it with success. "As I, am no longer in Haekensack, will you kindly change the address and send paper to my present home in Harrison? "Wishing you every blessing, sincerely your?, "SISTER MARY CLARA. ."March 25, 1005." We wish to assure the good Sister that her expressions ex-pressions of good will, kind well-wishes, and the pious invocations of herself and her devoted confreres con-freres .are most gratifying to us. We sincerely believe that there is more wrought by prayer than ' can possibly be accomplished by man's most arduous ardu-ous effort and particularly do we prize the intercessory inter-cessory orisons of God's chosen servants who zealously zeal-ously ply their labor of love in our religious institutions. insti-tutions. Realizing, too, how very essential is the special blessing of Heaven in the work of publishing publish-ing a Catholic journal, in order that the sowing of the seed of faith and righteousness may be prosecuted prose-cuted intelligently, conscientiously and consistently, it shall ever be a source of consolation and encouragement en-couragement to us to be assured that we arc remembered re-membered by the innocent and prayerful. v ,. And now comes young Rockefeller and likens "Standard Oil" to the "American Beauty" rose, in the culture of which 009 tender buds must be sacrificed, sacri-ficed, in order that the one fully developed product may, be matured for man's delectation. Was there' ver perpetrated a more preposterous simile? Well, fo be sure "Standard Oil" would probably be just as malodorous "by any other name." ' ' f One of our Catholic exchanges makes the statement, editorially, that the Standard Oil Company Com-pany has appropriated the sum of $20,000,000 lo be used in thwarting the will of the American people: $10,000,000 for legal talent to combat the department, depart-ment, of justice, and. a like formidable sum to be i used by lobbyists in our national Congress. This charge should be judicially investigated and, if found to be true, should establish a prima facie case against the greedy octopus as a public nuisance and ''""'' V ! a drerfd menace against the liberties of the nation. The burden of proof might then rest upon the ac-. ac-. cused, and if it fail to clearly t indicate itself, it should be summarily squelched and effectually demolished. de-molished. , |
