Show In the Catholic Fortnightly Review of April 1st appears an able and interesting article entitled "What Atheistic Science Leads To." The doctrines doc-trines of the authorities quoted are startling in the extreme, and the just and reasonable deductions therefrom constitute a scathing arraignment of a Godless science. The total disregard for the sa-credness sa-credness of human life' evinced by these advocates ad-vocates of murder "in the interest of humanity," hu-manity," by recommending putting a speedy end to cripples and other incurables, must soon- result -in a relapse into savagery, if the tenets of these scoffers at religion should ever become be-come generally accepted by society ; for it is clear that whenever it shall become the common belief that human life may be destroyed at pleasure, no man-made laws can ever protect society against the depredations of the passionate malcontent or others whose selfishness might imagine gain to themselves in the death of their fellows. And such is the scientific religion that .is destined to emancipate emanci-pate the race from the slavery of superstition the degrading influence of a belief in the supernatural and the immortality of the soul! ' . . t . Is it not surpassingly strange that it should be necessary to urge men to avail themselves of the greatest,, the dearest, the most sublime privilege that is vouchsafed unto the sons of men? Is it not all but incomprehensible that men endowed with faith and with reason should have to be reminded of the blessed duty of receiving into their hearts the God of ineffable love and peace Such, however, how-ever, seems to be the case, and Holy Church who, in her divine solicitude would save men almost against their will, enjoins upon the faithful tho duty of receiving Holy Communion at least once a year, under pain of mortal sin. In order to render more definite, and certain this sacred duty, she has designated the precise period during which it must be performed, namely, between the first Sunday Sun-day in Lent and Trinity Sunday. This season is now speedily drawing to a close. Is there one man woman or child- unon whom tl,; m:.: . who will neglect to render dutiful and loving compliance com-pliance Earnestly it is to be hoped that there is not, especially among the readers of the Intermountain Inter-mountain Catholic. . , ; A lack of Christian harmony between the ministers min-isters and publishers of the Christian (Campbelite) denomination was made manifest in their national congress, in session at Columbia, Mo., the other day. Elder L. G. Bateman in his paper on' "Our Religious Journalism" charged that too much space is given to church news and not enough to the dissemination of the word of God. To this Dr. W. T., Moore, the veteran religious journalist of Columbia retorted that the ministers were derelict de-relict in their support of the papers, and stated that he had yet to hear the first prayer for a religious paper. ; k. .
