Show j ROCK SPRINGS, WYO. j (Special Conespondence.) I Rock Springs Catholics heard with j much pleasure from Father O'Connor I last Sunday, that with the proceeds of the St. Patrick's day entertainment, amounting to some S660, the entire church debt has been paid and $242 paid on the house property. The success suc-cess of the entertainment -was to us all a labor of love, but on hearing the figures, we felt that the results far surpassed our expectations. While the concert was in progress, the priests' house was broken into. but. thank God. the entertainment money the burglars wei-e 'after; was safely deposited .in the bank, and - of" course we attribute our; good fortune in the matter to the loving protection, of St. Patrick.'' The statement made in last week's Intermountain by your Evanston correspondent, cor-respondent, that Father Charles O'Connor O'Con-nor was to be made pastor of that town church is utterly incorrect. We hope our dear bishop had never contemplated con-templated sending him so far west. Before these items will appear in print, however, our Evanston friends will have welcomed to their midst Father T. Barrett, whom, I feel, they will not long call simply pastor, but their own soggort h a room Your correspondent regards the good Father as an ideal priest, who. in a short time will prove n blessing to i Evanston. and to the young. F. Barrett Bar-rett is now in Rock Springs visiting . with our pastor. He will give us an opportunity of confessing to a new priest, who exhibits all the sweetness of character native to the Green Isle. Dame Rumor has it that Mr. and Mrs. McCurtain are about to leave Rock Springs 'and Wyoming for some other state. Mrs. McCurtain. though still quite young, is to a certain extent an old timer, having spent most of her life with us. Universally loved, we sincerely hate to see her go. Mr. McCurtain. Mc-Curtain. on ihe other hand, though relatively new in Rock Springs, has greatly endeared himself to us Catholics. Cath-olics. Though not of the fold, he has been a frequent worshipper. If one day he should join us, Ave shall deem the acquisition highly honorable. The Maccabees are preparing an entertainment to be given some time in May. The Maccabeo entertainments in the pafct. and the fact that the pres-j pres-j ent one is being handled by Mrs. Reed and Mrs. Thayer, make us feel that there is something brilliant m store for us. These two ladies have with others ever been our good friends and kind helpers. Mr. Charles Sorenson has been ailing ail-ing for some clays, but we are glad to hear of his complete recovery. |
