Show NEW SUPERIOR GENERAL. The Paulist Fathers have selected a successor to Father Deshon, late Superior General of the order. Rev. George M. Scarle, now superior, joined the Catholic church in 1862. He is a near relative of President Eliot of Harvard College, from which institution he graduated in 1857. For two years aftev his graduation , he served as an assistant as-sistant at the Dudley Astronomical Observatory at Albany, X. Y., a very appropriate position to fill, as tho j-oung graduate was a direct descendant of the Dudleys who served as colonial governors of Massachusetts from 1631, to 1640, and again from 1645 to 1650. The son Joseph Dudley filled the same position from 1702 to 1715. After two years of fuithful service at the Dudley Astronomical Observatory, ho worked with the coast survey, and was soon appointed professor of astronomy and mathematics at the U. S. naval academy at Annapolis. An-napolis. This office he filled with great distinction till 1864.
