Show To Remove Haydn's Bones. The city council of Vienna has made formal overtures to the authorities of Elsenstadt looking toward the removal of the bones of Josef Haydn to Vienna "where," the city fathers say, "a fitting fit-ting resting place will be provided by the city." This will be near the graves of Beenthoven and Schubert. Haydn was 77 years old when he died in Vienna, Vien-na, in 1809. He was buried in a little cemetery near Hundssturn line, and at the head of the grave was placed a small stone, at the expense of his pupil, SIgmund Knight of Neukomn. The stone bore only the name "Haydn," and the inscription "Non omnis moriar." In 1820 Prince Esterhazy had the body removed re-moved to Elsenstadt, where Haydn had been music director from 1760 to 1790, and there an elaborate monument with ample inscription was erected. |
